I had recently done a bit of research on a variety of diets and how easy they are to follow. There are so many diets that pop up all over the place and one in particular I noticed while reading is the green tea diet. Do not be fooled by the name – you will not have to forego all of your food for a strict great tea diet, instead, you can get away with simply adding more. Here is a bit of info on it all
What exactly is a green tea diet?
The green tea diet is an industry-coined term that describes a diet on which you consume more green tea. There really isn’t anything too complicated or hard to follow. It is not promoting that you change your eating habits, simply add more green tea. To some, this might be easy, but for others that do not commonly drink tea it can definitely be a challenge.
What is in green tea that is so great?
Green tea is tea using the leaf of camellia sinensis. Originating in China it is now gaining popularity in the west. What makes green tea such a more sought after tea as far as health and fitness goes is the fact that it has a higher amount of flavonoids – a substances responsible for many great health benefits. It is the flabonoids that make green tea have its anti-oxidative features and many other great health benefits. Here are some of the benefits of trying a green tea diet.
Benefits of a green tea diet
Reduced risk of heart disease
According to some sources green tea is extremely beneficial at reducing risk for cardiovascular diseases. It helps reduce the level of bad cholesterol (LDL) and lowers blood lipid level. If you have ever had a heart attack or are at a higher risk for one, according to this study, you should definitely be trying out a green tea diet. Simply add a couple cups of tea every day.
Reduces the risk of some cancers
There was an article on Science Daily that suggests that consuming just two cups of green tea every day will reduce your risk of some cancers. Most scientists are unable to pin-point exactly how green tea works its magic, but are able to measure the benefits of its effects.
Promotes weight loss with proper diet and supplementation
Although a green tea diet along will not dramatically increase your weight loss, it is still a great weight loss tea, and consuming this great tea does increase metabolism when combined with polyphenois and caffeine. These are the substances that are often found in a thermogenesis supplement containing green tea extract.
My final thoughts on a green tea diet
I love green tea. It’s delicious and I will try to have at least one cup a day. If you are already a tea drinker you might as well consider switching over to green tea for its added health benefits (not to mention I consider it much better tasting than black tea as well). Looking for the secret to great health and longevity? Who knows, green tea just might be it.
