I can often be found kicking around David’s Tea or the World Tea House downtown enjoying a cup of tea and writing on my laptop. I find it a great way to get out and enjoy alternative scenery while benefiting my health in the mean time.
I recently overheard a couple arguing about tea, specifically green tea but all different kinds, and their effects on weight loss and health and fitness. It was quite entertaining as each seemed to know what they were talking about, so I did a bit of digging around myself on what exactly makes a great weight loss tea.
What is a great weight loss tea
By far the best weight loss tea is green tea. Both the tea and its extract have been studied and proven to help aid in weight loss and lower bad cholesterol. Unfortunately, many people assume that all tea is created equal. Just because green tea is such a good weight loss tea, does not mean that your favourite tea will have the same properties. North Americans consume much more black tea than they do green tea as green tea is much more popular in Asian countries.
Black tea as a weight loss tea
Although green tea is definitely the best at helping you lose weight, black tea does have its benefits as well. Using black tea for weight loss is quite popular because it has a much higher caffeine content than green tea. This helps to boost your metabolic rate and therefore burn more calories.
How to maximize the benefits of a weight loss tea
If I were to try to make a tea that is used just for weight loss, I would likely combine a couple together. Perhaps do 2 parts green tea to one part black. This way you get the added benefit of increased caffeine while still getting all the anti-oxidants that green tea has to offer.
Also, tea extract is very beneficial to weight loss, especially when combined with caffeine. This is why so many energy supplements contain green tea extract and caffeine. Although getting your green tea from a pill may seem foreign to most, it may be a great way to help lose weight.
Other health benefits of tea
There are countless health benefits to a variety of types of tea. These can range from anti-cancer properties, lower stress and anti-depressant properties, and possible benefits to help prevent diabetes. The most popular tea as far as health and fitness goes is definitely green tea. North Americans are more used to drinking a black tea, however, and by simply switching their tea color could significantly impact their overall heath and wellbeing.
